Alicia Black is a former world No. 3 ITF junior tennis player, 2013 US Open Girls’ Singles Finalist, and accomplished American tennis professional who now brings her experience to developing young players in Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and South Florida. A former No. 1 nationally ranked U.S. junior and multiple national championship Gold Ball winner, Alicia understands the journey from learning the fundamentals as a young child to competing at the highest levels of junior tennis.
Having started tennis at age three, Alicia experienced firsthand the dedication, competitive challenges, and training demands involved in reaching the top of the junior rankings. Her career included representing the United States on its championship-winning 2014 Junior Fed Cup team, winning professional ITF singles titles, and competing on the WTA Tour. Today, she brings that experience to coaching, with a particular focus on helping young girls develop strong foundations, sound technique, match confidence, and the skills needed for competitive junior tennis.
Alicia works with players at different stages of development, from young beginners discovering the game to competitive teenagers preparing for USTA tournaments, high school tennis, and the transition toward college-level competition. Her coaching opportunities include individual instruction, competitive development, and personalized training programs based on each player’s goals and experience.
Through Alex Delray Tennis, local and visiting families can also inquire about focused tennis training in South Florida, including one- to two-week development programs during winter breaks, spring vacations, and summer holidays. These programs can combine personalized coaching with opportunities for competitive practice and local match play, helping young athletes make the most of their time on court.
Alicia brings a particularly valuable perspective to junior development because she personally progressed through the American junior tennis system to become one of the highest-ranked girls in the world.
Her experience spans USTA national competition, international ITF junior tournaments, Junior Grand Slam events, and professional tennis. She understands the transition from early technical development to serious tournament preparation, including the importance of consistency, movement, competitive confidence, and managing expectations as young players mature.
Her coaching focus is especially relevant to girls developing between the ages of 8 and 18, including competitive players seeking to improve their USTA results and prepare for high school, national-level, or future collegiate competition.
For families visiting Florida, intensive training blocks can be tailored to the player’s age, current level, and specific development priorities, with additional hitting and practice-match opportunities coordinated through the local Alex Delray Tennis network where available.
Historical playing background
Alicia believes that developing a successful junior tennis player involves much more than simply hitting thousands of balls. Strong fundamentals, efficient movement, smart decision-making, and the ability to compete confidently under pressure all become increasingly important as young players progress.
For younger girls, the priority is developing comfortable, reliable technique and a positive relationship with the sport. As players advance, training becomes more focused on consistency, footwork, point construction, serving, match strategy, and the physical and mental demands of tournament tennis. Every player develops differently, so lessons should reflect individual strengths, areas for improvement, and long-term goals.
For competitive juniors, Alicia brings the perspective of someone who experienced the USTA junior pathway, international junior competition, and professional tennis firsthand. The goal is meaningful, sustainable improvement while helping young athletes build confidence, independence, and a genuine love of competition.
Short-term intensive training can also be arranged for visiting families who want focused, productive sessions during a Florida tennis trip.
From First Lessons to Competitive Junior Tennis
Alicia’s junior development training is designed for girls at different stages of their tennis journey. Younger players can focus on coordination, proper stroke development, movement, and building confidence on court. More experienced juniors can concentrate on match consistency, serve development, point construction, tactical awareness, and tournament preparation.
The objective is to help each player develop a strong technical foundation while progressing at a pace that matches her ability, motivation, and competitive goals.
